Suzanne and I recently had a very pleasant conversation regarding my internship. It was beneficial even though our conversation took place before the scheduled eight-week check-in. We talked informally about how my internship is going and whether I’m finding it interesting. Although I don’t particularly love the company, I told her that I feel like I enjoy the work itself. Since I work for a chemical company, a lot of technical and scientific terms are used, particularly those that are related to chemistry. Sometimes I find it difficult that I don’t always understand such concepts completely.
I also brought up how important it is to continue studying if I want to grow in this field. I mentioned that getting a master’s degree is almost essential if I want to work for big companies like BASF or pursue a career in the field of psychology. Suzanne explained how master’s programs work in Belgium after finishing a bachelor’s degree, which was interesting and gave me some things to think about. During the conversation, I also explained to her what my daily work looks like and shared details about my “golden project.” I asked her for some clarity on deadlines because I wasn’t 100% sure about them. I also shared a few ideas I had for my next assignment, which involves creating Instagram reels. Suzanne gave me great advice and helped me decide how to move forward with it, which I really appreciate.
I gained a lot of guidance and clarity from the discussion overall. It’s helpful to have someone like Suzanne to ask for feedback and recommendations. I felt somewhat more assured about how I would manage things for the rest of my internship.
