My internship at BASF Antwerp has truly been an incredible journey, one that has surpassed my expectations in many ways. From the moment I stepped into the company, I was excited to dive into the world of social media, internal communication, newsletters, and event coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Starting my internship before the intended date set by my school gave me a unique opportunity to get a head start on understanding how things work at BASF. I was eager to learn and explore, and those first two weeks were all about getting to know the company better. I visited several different sites and met colleagues from various departments, which helped me build relationships and grasp the vast scope of the organization. It was inspiring to see how everyone worked together towards common goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As I settled into my role, I quickly found myself involved in a range of tasks. One of my main focuses became developing content for our internal channels and social media. I was particularly curious about how a large corporation like BASF manages to communicate effectively with such a diverse workforce while adapting messages for different platforms. I learned a lot about creating internal newsletters and how important they are for keeping employees informed and engaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the highlights for me was getting involved in event organization. I really wanted to understand how the communication team helps plan and execute effective events that align with BASF\u2019s goals. I had the chance to assist with the planning of the official opening of a new installation, which was a fantastic learning experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the standout moments of my internship was working with the HR team on a significant upcoming event focused on diversity and inclusion. While my mentor was on vacation, I was given the opportunity to attend meetings on her behalf. I was excited to be part of something that resonated with me personally. Since the company had been planning this event for months, I was able to jump in and contribute right from the start.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I was involved in redesigning the company\u2019s diversity and inclusion webpage, working closely with my mentor to develop ideas and design suggestions. It felt great to collaborate on something meaningful. I also took on responsibilities like organizing groups and coordinating table layouts, which gave me a hands-on understanding of event logistics. Creating Instagram reels to capture the event\u2019s highlights was a lot of fun, too! It was a great way to showcase the atmosphere and purpose of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While I enjoyed my time at BASF immensely, I did face some challenges, especially when it came to the technical and scientific terminology related to the chemical industry. Sometimes, it was tough to fully grasp certain concepts. However, Suzanne helped me navigate these challenges and provided valuable insights that boosted my confidence. Additionally, my experience volunteering for Sintfeest brought back nostalgic feelings of working in childcare and summer camps while studying pedagogy. This connection to my past experiences deepened my appreciation for the importance of engaging with children and fostering their curiosity, further enriching my internship journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overall, my internship at BASF has been a transformative experience that has not only met but exceeded my expectations. It has equipped me with practical knowledge in internal communications, event planning, and social media management. I\u2019ve gained valuable skills in teamwork, project management, and effective communication. Most importantly, I\u2019ve deepened my understanding of the corporate world while strengthening my passion for initiatives that promote inclusivity and engagement. I am truly grateful for the responsibilities I was entrusted with and for the chance to be part of such a significant endeavor that brings people together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
